Dry cleaning is a process of cleaning garments without water. We immerse clothes in an eco-safe solvent (in the dry cleaning machine) which removes soils and reconditions the fibers in the garments. The solvent is then extracted from the drum of the machine and is filtered and reused. It is more gentle on clothes than traditional wet cleaning.

Avon gives our customers the quality they deserve. We hand finish every garment. Rather than pushing garments out the door as fast as possible, we add value at every stage. Our prices cover the best eco-friendly solvents and expert-trained spot removers, as well as living wages for all of our employees and allows us to support our community.

Some materials require more care than others. For example, all cotton is more difficult to press, silks and rayons require more effort to remove soils and stains. Down comforters require twice as long in a dryer and cashmere requires delicate handling.

Fabrics are not naturally bright white in color. New garments have a white brightener added to them. Avon’s System K4 Solvent retains the optical brightness of the fabric with freshly distilled solvent. Also, it requires our expert-trained cleaner to get stains out of white fabrics since spots show up more readily.

Sugar stains such as alcohol or any liquid that contains sugar may not be visible when turned in for cleaning. However, the cleaning process and age turns the invisible stain into a brown spot.

Sugar stains are very difficult to treat once the garment has been cleaned. If Avon knows of a spilled liquid on the garment, the garment can be pre-treated before it is cleaned. 

If a stain has been sitting on fabric for a long time it becomes more difficult to get out — age. Avon stops stain removal when it is possible that treatment will pull color or weaken the fabric.

Please note: If a Permission to Continue Stain Removal Release is signed, Avon can continue to work on the stain. However, there is potential for damage or color loss to the fabric and the spot is not guaranteed to come out. 

Once the initial cleaning is paid for and the release is signed, Avon will redo at no charge. 

Avon Cleaners is required by FTC Regulations to follow the manufacturer’s care label. The release allows our expert-trained cleaners to use their best judgement in how to treat certain items if the care-label has been removed.

Also, some items (especially leather) are dyed and imperfections such as scars, tick marks and brands are filled-in by the manufacturer. When cleaned, these marks and pores in the fabrics may be altered. 

Certain types of stains, including protein-based (blood) stains have a higher likelihood of coming out when treated through wet cleaning and certain garments bear a risk of shrinking or the color fading.

FTC has no regulations on preshrinking a fabric. Therefore, there is always a chance that the fabric may shrink.

Sunlight weakens the fabric and will cause the fabric to fade. Cleaning can catalyze this process.

Our dry cleaners use their best judgement and are often able to block a garment back to its original size if shrinking occurs but we cannot guarantee it. We need the customer’s permission before we attempt wet cleaning on these items.

Note: If a stain is known, Avon can pretreat the stain prior to cleaning so be sure to tag the garment and point it out to your customer service agent.

Two things: dirt and heavy starch in shirts.

Dirt lodges within the fabric and will weaken the fabric. Even though some garments such as men’s suits may not appear dirty, they should be cleaned every 3rd or 4th wear to remove dirt. This also applies for heavy starch in shirt. No cleaning will shorten the life of the garment. 

Garments are not charge differently based on gender. 

However, some blouses or shirts will not fit on our pressing bucks thus hand pressing is required. Hand pressing is labor intensive and is therefore more expensive.

Shirts with zippers, Velcro, metal snaps, corduroy, or wood or shell buttons must be dry cleaned and hand-finished because those elements often break or melt on the shirt bucks. Linen shirts will shrink and need to be dry cleaned unless a release is signed. Shirts that do not unbutton all the way or that have darts do not fit on the buck due to their shape and must be hand-pressed. 

That said, women’s clothes tend to have more customization and are more form-fitting than men’s shirts, which tend to have a uniform square shape. This is why hand pressing is more common on women’s blouses or shirts.

We have to pretest each different type of beading before garments get cleaned to make sure they can withstand the cleaning process.

Rather than being sewn-on the garment, some beans and sequins are glued 0n.

Beads and sequins may melt or discolor when exposed to heat. They must be tested before cleaning. The upcharge accounts for the labor needed to perform these steps.

Leather and suede require a special process as they are “hide”. They must travel to a specialist to be cleaned. The due date accounts for the garments traveling there and back plus the cleaning time. Usually 2-3 weeks.

Over time fibers in yarns break apart and form little balls called pills. This often happens in areas where friction or abrasion occurs most, at the sleeves and sides. We can remove pills through depilling. 

Avon does not spot-clean only. Spot-cleaning only will leave a stain mark where the stain was. The garment then has to be dry cleaned to blend out the fabric.
